Today’s Quote:

A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting.

The Big Old Plant

Its foliage almost touches our head,
We don’t even question, if it’s living or dead.
Its name we’ve forgotten, it’s missing its label;
that big old plant on the antique table.

Presented as a gift to a new husband and wife,
It grew with us, throughout our married life.
It helped us establish our house as home;
moved with us wherever we roamed.

It would be bad, perhaps even sad,
We wouldn’t even question, we’d even cry a tad.
If anything happened, if it became unstable;
that big old plant on the antique table.

The sins of the day,  swirl through my head.
The things undone, the things unsaid,
Keep racing through my head.

At night alone, at dawn’s first light,
I’ve wondered, worried through the night.
That if I should die before I wake,
Would the Lord reject my soul to take?

Today’s Quote:

It is not customary to acknowledge the trees themselves, though their commitment is total.

– Forsyth and Rada, Machine Learning

Today’s Quote:

A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face.  It is one of the few havens remaining where a man’s mind can get both provocation and privacy.

– Edward P. Morgan
